Madang United ends home round one with home victory

    Madang United Football Club ended the first round of the Primer Soccer League (PSL) on a high note after defeating Lae City Dwellers 1–0 at Laiwaden Oval on Sunday.The victory follows two away draws for Madang United, both ending 3–3, against Gulf Komara FC and Lae City FC.

    Madang United striker Nicky Bonze scored the only goal of the match in the 24th minute of the first half, giving the home side an early lead.

    Lae City Dwellers responded strongly in the second half, creating several opportunities in search of an equaliser. However, Madang Uniteded’s defence and goalkeeper held firm to preserve the lead until the final whistle.

    The win sees Madang United complete Round One with an important home victory as the club prepares for the Round 2 of the season.

    Among those in attendance were supporters, families, and the Governor of Madang and Patron of Madang United Football Club, Hon. Ramsey Pariwa. Following the match, Governor Pariwa congratulated both teams and thanked Lae City Dwellers for providing a competitive contest. He acknowledged Madang United’s return to the PSL after a lengthy absence and praised the club’s commitment to developing local talent, with the majority of the squad made up of players from districts across Madang Province.

    As a symbol of friendship and sportsmanship, Madang United Team Manager presented a traditional Madang bilum to the Acting Team Manager of Lae City Dwellers. In return, the Lae City Dwellers presented a Morobe bilum to Governor Ramsey Pariwa, highlighting the mutual respect shared between the two clubs at the conclusion of the match.
