The Department of Personnel Management (DPM) has announced that Thursday, 23 July 2026, will be observed as National Remembrance Day and a public holiday throughout Papua New Guinea.

According to Circular Instruction No. 14 of 2026, issued on 21 May 2026, the public holiday was declared following approval by the National Executive Council (NEC) and the publication of the relevant National Gazette.

The circular directs all government departments, provincial administrations, public authorities, and public servants to observe the holiday. Public servants are expected to resume normal duties at 7:45 am on Friday, 24 July 2026.

National Remembrance Day is observed annually to honour Papua New Guineans who have served and sacrificed during times of war and conflict.
